MAYNARD, Massachusetts — A 19-year-old man has been charged with threatening to "shoot up" a Massachusetts high school.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan says Joseph Brooks of Maynard allegedly threatened to harm students at Maynard High School at the end of the current school year, in a text message he sent last fall. Maynard police say they arrested Brooks at his home Wednesday, shortly after learning about the threat.
Brooks pleaded not guilty Thursday in Concord District Court to charges including making a bomb threat, threatening to commit a crime and disturbing a school. His lawyer denied the allegations. A judge set bail at $7,500 and revoked Brooks' bail for 90 days in an unrelated assault case.
Brooks is a former student at Maynard High School.
