Hurricane Center: Hurricane Joaquin moving over the open Atlantic, well away from land


MIAMI — Hurricane Joaquin (wa-KEEN) is moving over the open Atlantic well away from land.

The hurricane's maximum sustained winds early Tuesday are near 85 mph (140 kph) with slow weakening forecast during the next two days.

Joaquin is centered about 420 miles (675 kilometers) north-northeast of Bermuda and is moving northeast near 17 mph (28 kph).
