NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia — A subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. Inc. is expanding its printer cartridge manufacturing and toner production operations in Newport News.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the expansion on Wednesday. Canon U.S.A. CEO Joe Adachi says the investment will total about $100 million.
Canon Virginia Inc. serves as the manufacturing, engineering, recycling and technical support center in the Americas region.
In a news release, McAuliffe said that the new, high-tech equipment requires intensive higher-scale training and will provide workers with skills essential to build Virginia's economy.
McAuliffe approved a $3 million performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program for the project. He discussed the project with Canon Inc. officials in Tokyo during a recent Asia trade mission.
