PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — A flash flood warning that covered most of Rhode Island has expired, but the National Weather Service says it still expects flash flooding in Newport County.
It also has extended a flash flood watch through most of Rhode island and eastern New England until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The flash flood warning in Newport is in effect until 2:30 p.m.
The weather service says the region has already seen one to two inches of rain, and thunderstorms moving across the region could bring more.
It warns people not to drive on flooded roadways, and says people near small streams should head for higher ground.
