Sheriff: No location, no builder for the $30 million Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex

THIBODAUX, Louisiana — More than a year after Lafourche Parish voters passed a sales tax to build a new jail, it's still unclear where it will be and who will build it.

The 600-bed, $30 million jail, which has been named the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, is slated to open in 2017. The jail will be paid for with a 0.2 percent sales tax passed in May 2014.

The Daily Comet reports (http://bit.ly/1J7FB4Q) Sheriff Craig Webre said in a news release Thursday the new jail will be in the Thibodaux area, though no land has been purchased. Webre said they're ideally looking for about 10-20 acres.

An architect was originally expected to be chosen earlier this year, but Webre said the search continues.

The sheriff says the Jail Advisory Group continues to review architectural proposals.
