Trooper helicopter crew spots hunter missing near Petersville, directs ground crew to rescue

PETERSVILLE, Alaska — An Alaska State Trooper helicopter crew Wednesday spotted a hunter missing since Saturday outside Petersville in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.

Troopers say 49-year-old Charles Hull was found at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near the Kahiltna (kah-HILT'-nah) River and Hungryman Creek.

The helicopter directed ground crews to Hull. He was to be medically evaluated after four nights away from his hunting camp.

Hull at about 7 a.m. Saturday left a hunting camp at the base of Little Peters Mountain and did not return.

A ground search was launched Sunday. Foul weather prevented an immediate aerial search.

The Alaska Incident Management Team, MATSAR, Alaska Mountain Rescue Group, Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs, Petersville SAR Group, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center and the Alaska National Guard helped with the search.
