NEW ORLEANS — A Slidell tax preparer has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison and ordered to pay $412,781 in restitution for submitting false tax returns and lying to a grand jury.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite says 36-year-old John Labee, who owns Millenium Bookkeeping Services and IP Financial Services, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to 46 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Times-Picayune reports ( Labee pleaded guilty last December to aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax documents, lying on personal income tax returns and making false declarations before the grand jury.

Prosecutors say Labee had numerous clients and regularly prepared tax returns containing false or fraudulent information.
