Coroner: Horry County jail inmate found unresponsive in cell died of natural causes


CONWAY, South Carolina — An Horry County jail inmate who was found unresponsive and later died at a hospital died of natural causes.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler tells local media outlets that 60-year-old Jerome Floyd of Conway died about 5 p.m. Thursday. Floyd was found unresponsive in his cell about an hour earlier.

The jail medical staff performed CPR and the inmate was taken to the hospital.

Fowler said that Floyd died of natural causes but did not say specifically what they were.
