HARTFORD, Connecticut — More than 108,000 people have enrolled in health insurance plans over the past two months through Connecticut's health insurance marketplace.

Jim Wadleigh, acting director of Access Health CT, said Thursday that enrollment has been "very strong" during the 2015 open enrollment period, which began Nov. 15. Of the new enrollees, 83,749 have signed up with government-funded Medicaid and 24,287 have enrolled in private health insurance plans.

Wadleigh says there have been spikes in enrollment activity. For instance, Thursday marked the second to last major milestone. Thursday was the final day to enroll in coverage that begins Feb. 1. This year's open enrollment period ends Feb. 15.

Wadleigh said membership is growing for small business coverage as well. So far, 175 small companies have signed up for plans.
