MOUNT MORRIS, New York — A 48-year-old woman is recovering at a Rochester hospital after she was injured when her vehicle was hit by a police car pursuing a speeder in western New York.

Police in the Livingston County village of Mount Morris say Officer Jacob Zangerle (ZAYNE'-ger-lee) was attempting to pull over a speeding vehicle last Saturday morning when he lost control of his patrol car on a wet road, slid into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, Connie McDowell of Dansville, suffered broken bones in her legs and other injuries. She's listed in satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Zangerle was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Mount Morris is 30 miles southeast of Rochester.

State police are investigating the accident.
