DES MOINES, Iowa — A man freed last year after being granted a new trial for a 1996 Des Moines slaying has been charged with fleeing prosecution in a new case.
The Des Moines Register says (http://dmreg.co/1og9yiW ) David Flores was charged last week. Polk County Jail records say Flores remained in custody on Thursday. His attorney didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
Flores served 16 years for the shooting death of Phillis Davis before his conviction was overturned. The charges were refiled, but Flores reached a plea deal that kept him out of prison.
Once out, Flores was arrested three times in two months, including on a charge that he attacked his ex-girlfriend.
Police say Flores skipped town after bonding out. He was taken into custody eight months later in Arizona.
