WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island — A group of four Rhode Island men plan to make a second attempt at paddling canoes and kayaks from one end of the state to the other.
Chuck Horbert of the non-profit group Rhode Island Blueways Alliance planned to lead a 106-mile trip last summer to highlight the efforts that have improved water quality and access since the passage of the national Clean Water Act in 1970.
But the group was forced to abandon the effort due to high water caused by a tropical storm.
Horbert tells the Woonsocket Call (http://bit.ly/1okiDKP ) they will try again this weekend.
They plan to begin in the Blackstone River in North Smithfield on Sunday and travel 101 miles south, including 18 miles of portaging. They hope to finish on July 13 in Westerly.
