SEATTLE — Authorities say a woman in her 90s died and her elderly son was injured in a Seattle house fire.
Crews responding to the Thursday morning fire in the Capitol Hill neighborhood found a 76-year-old occupant of the home standing outside. He said his mother was trapped in the burning two-story home. The Seattle Fire Department says firefighters found the woman dead in the first floor living area.
The 76-year-old man was evaluated for smoke inhalation and minor burns. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by smoking material improperly discarded in a chair. Damage was estimated at $150,000 to the house and $50,000 to the contents.
