Ajax thrashes Cambuur 5-1, extends lead atop Dutch Eredivisie as 2nd-placed PSV held to draw

AMSTERDAM — Ajax scored four goals in the first half on its way to thrashing Cambuur Leeuwarden 5-1 on Saturday and extending its lead at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie as second-placed PSV Eindhoven drew 2-2 at Willem II Tilburg.

Defender Joel Veltman headed Ajax into the lead from a 25th-minute corner at the Amsterdam Arena, but Sander van de Streek equalized less than two minutes later for second-last placed Cambuur.

Ajax went ahead again two minutes later when striker Arek Milik headed home another corner. Midfielder Davy Kaassen struck twice before the break and Amin Younes rounded off the scoring in the 61st.

PSV slipped to four points behind Ajax in the title chase as lowly Willem II held on for a draw to share the points with the defending champion.
