HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — Cabell Huntington Hospital Inc. is set to acquire of St. Mary's Medical Center.
Cabell Huntington said in a news release Friday that it has signed an agreement with Pallottine Health Services Inc. to transfer control of St. Mary's.
Discussions regarding the acquisition were first announced in August after the Pallotine Missionary Sisters decided to end their sponsorship of the hospital.
Both hospitals are located in Huntington. St. Mary's has 393 beds and is the largest private employer in Cabell County. Cabell Huntington has 303 beds.
Cabell Huntington officials say the move will help provide higher quality of care at a lower cost in order to meet the needs of its patients and the community.
Officials say numerous state and federal regulatory approvals are needed before the agreement is finalized.
