The stock market is opening mostly lower after a ho-hum batch of reports on the U.S. economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 10 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,213 in early trading Thursday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down a point at 2,113. The Nasdaq composite edged up six points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,974.

Claims for unemployment benefits edged higher last week, and prices paid by consumers rose last month, excluding energy and food.

The Dow notched its third record high close in a row Wednesday, and the Nasdaq is getting closer to its all-time closing high of 5,048.62 reached in March 2000.

Bond prices didn't move much. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note edged up to 1.99 percent from 1.97 percent late Wednesday.
