SALT LAKE CITY — Slain Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Cory Wride's name has been added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon says Wride was honored at a Friday ceremony during the 32nd Annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service.

President Barack Obama spoke at the event.

Wride was killed in January 2014 when he stopped to check on a vehicle that had its emergency lights on. The driver, Jose Angel Garcia-Juaregui, fatally shot Wride while the officer was in his car. In a crime spree that ensued, Garcia-Juaregui was killed by police in a shootout.

His teenage girlfriend, Meagan Grunwald, was recently found guilty of murder for her role driving the car during the events.
