Jury selection to continue in trial of Ga. man accused of killing police officer

ATLANTA — Jury selection in the trial of a man accused of killing a police officer in Athens will continue after the state high court dismissed a series of appeals.

Prosecutors in the trial of Jamie Hood on Friday raised a number of issues regarding jury selection in a filing directly to the Georgia Supreme Court. The high court initially stopped proceedings Monday to consider those issues, but later lifted that stay.

However, prosecutors had also filed a separate notice of appeal with the trial court. A Supreme Court spokeswoman says officials asked for the notice to be forwarded to the high court and jury selection will continue now that the appeal has been dismissed.

Hood faces the death penalty in the 2011 slaying of Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian III.
