WISNER, Nebraska — Residents jammed a school board meeting for a discussion on how and where to build a replacement for a middle school damaged by a tornado in northeast Nebraska.

On June 16 an EF4 twister destroyed or damaged more than half the town of Pilger (PIHL'-gur). The school had housed kindergarten through 12th grades until the local district merged with the nearby Wisner district in 1968.

The Norfolk Daily News says ( ) several people who spoke at the board meeting Wednesday night pleaded with the board to remember the promise made by the Wisner School Board in 1968 to always have a facility in Pilger.

The board made no decision and tabled further discussion until district officials know how much money to expect from insurance and disaster aid.
