ORLANDO, Florida — A police officer exchanged gunfire with a man during an early morning foot chase in Orlando.

The Orlando Sentinel ( ) reports that about 1:10 a.m. Monday, the officer spotted a vehicle that had been stolen during a carjacking on Saturday. He called for backup and started following the vehicle.

The vehicle turned onto a residential street and abruptly stopped. The passenger and driver got out and started running. The officer ran after them.

Police say the passenger shot at the officer, who returned fire. No one was injured. A police dog tracked down the man and he was arrested. Officers are still searching for the vehicle's driver.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is the department's policy.
