KEY WEST, Florida — A Florida Keys medical examiner has concluded that the death of a Michigan man at a hospital while in police custody was accidental.

According to an autopsy in Monroe County, Charles Eimers of Birch Run, Michigan, had a heart condition. Eimers died six days after an altercation Nov. 28 with Key West Police during a traffic stop.

In an autopsy report obtained last week by The Key West Citizen (http://bit.ly/1pPQOcJ ), Dr. E. Hunt Scheuerman wrote that Eimers was "at risk for sudden death, at any time."

Scheuerman's report also notes that a state investigation "did not reveal any use of deadly force."

A grand jury will meet in July to consider whether the officers involved should face criminal charges. Eimers' family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city.
