LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Louisville coach Bobby Petrino expects freshman Reggie Bonnafon to play smarter in his second stint as the Cardinals' starting quarterback.

Bonnafon, who started three games earlier this season in place of injured Will Gardner, regained the job last week when the sophomore sustained a season-ending left knee injury in the win at Boston College. Bonnafon gets to face Notre Dame on Saturday and Petrino said Monday that while coaches want Bonnafon to play smart, his mobility could be a significant game-changer.

Petrino was optimistic that senior linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin might return from a hamstring injury that kept him out against BC. The Cardinals could also get defensive lineman Pio Vatuvei (elbow) and receiver James Quick (suspension) back as well.
