GREENVILLE, North Carolina — A fraternity has asked its chapter at East Carolina University to suspend activities after a woman reported a rape last week.
Multiple media outlets reported that the national office of Sigma Phi Epsilon asked its chapter at the Greenville school to suspend operations while the allegation is investigated.
An 18-year-old woman reported that she was raped Jan. 25 at the home of the offender. It was not until Friday that Greenville police said the home was the fraternity's location.
A statement from the fraternity's office in Richmond, Virginia, said it is cooperating with school administrators to investigate the report.
Sigma Phi Epsilon said the suspension is temporary.
The school said East Carolina's Interfraternity Council has agreed to a self-imposed moratorium on all social events at all fraternities.
