DURHAM, New Hampshire — The discovery of poor soil has delayed the planned opening of a new outdoor pool at the University of New Hampshire until 2016, a year later than expected.
Foster's Daily Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1sFE39N) UNH spokeswoman Erika Mantz says a recent study determined that soil in the area was very poor for building the pool, requiring additional work before construction can begin.
Mantz said UNH remains committed to the existing site for the pool. The delay also will not affect the size of the pool or design elements.
UNH closed its historic 42,000-square-foot pool this summer due to health and safety concerns. A new pool was approved in April.
