MIAMI — A former MTV reality show contestant is facing a mandatory life sentence for a fatal South Florida home invasion.

A Miami-Dade jury convicted Baron Colon on Tuesday of first-degree murder. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 17.

Authorities say Colon and two others broke into the West Kendall home of 44-year-old Marcelo Vera in January 2006 with the help of a disgruntled employee. The Cuban exile art dealer was later found shot to death.

Colon was arrested in 2011 after talking about the crime to an undercover informant working with Miami-Dade police.

The Miami Herald (http://goo.gl/9eQ2kx ) reports that Colon appeared on the MTV reality show "From G's to Gents" in 2009. The purpose of the show was to help misdirected young men change their lives.
