MUNCIE, Indiana — Officials say they likely will never determine what caused a fire that killed a 3-year-old Muncie boy.
The May 8 house fire that sent flames shooting 30 feet into the air killed Clayton Carnes, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy's mother, her boyfriend and her 14-month-old child escaped the blaze and were treated for smoke inhalation.
Muncie chief fire investigator Robert Mead told The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1sCkE8i ) that evidence that could have shed light on the fire's cause was likely consumed in the fire that gutted the living room, killing the boy and his puppy.
Mead says the cause of the fire will be classified as undetermined.
