Highway Patrol investigating after officer shoots, injures man in central Missouri


CALIFORNIA, Missouri — Authorities in central Missouri say officers responding to a call shot and wounded a man who came out of his home with a weapon.

The Jefferson City News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1PQFDgJ ) the man is being treated at a Columbia hospital for injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says California, Missouri, police officers went to the home early Friday to arrest the man on outstanding warrants. The man's identity hasn't been released.

Authorities say the man came out of the residence with what was believed to be an assault rifle. Officers fired on the man.

California, Missouri, has about 4,200 residents and is located about 24 miles west of Jefferson City.
