Father convicted of 3rd-degree murder, aggravated assault in 2009 death of 4-month-old son

READING, Pennsylvania — An eastern Pennsylvania man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the death of his 4-month-old son 6½ years ago.

The Reading Eagle (http://bit.ly/1NIhfOC ) reports that jurors in Berks County deliberated for about seven hours before convicting 29-year-old Eugene Jimenez of the murder charge as well as child endangerment and three counts of aggravated assault. He was acquitted of first-degree murder, another aggravated assault count and four counts of simple assault.

Defense attorney Nicholas Stroumbakis said he was disappointed, given his client's lack of any prior record.

Jimenez was charged in 2013 in the February 2009 death of Ayden Jimenez at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Authorities said the child had bleeding in the brain, broken ribs and other injuries that doctors testified were consistent with child abuse.
