ATLANTA — Temperatures sunk as low as 14 degrees in at least one Georgia town as near-record cold gripped the state for a second straight day.

The National Weather Service said the low around 5 a.m. Wednesday was 14 degrees in Cartersville. The northwest Georgia town was among the coldest spots in the state before dawn Wednesday.

Temperatures elsewhere in the state ranged from 16 in Rome and Peachtree City to 32 in Brunswick around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
