HARTFORD, Connecticut — The president of Connecticut's Board of Regents has appointed an interim provost.

Starting Jan. 30, Estela R. Lopez will serve in the position until June 30, 2016. She is currently senior associate at Excelencia in Education, a nonprofit organization that attempts to improve Latino student success in higher education through education policies and institutional practices.

Lopez also served vice chancellor of academic affairs for the Connecticut State University system from 2002 to 2007. During her time at CSU, she oversaw the online distance learning program and helped to create programs that responded to the needs of the workforce, among other initiatives.

The recently created Board of Regents now oversees the four CSU state universities, as well as the state's 12 community colleges and the state's online college.
