PHOENIX — The owner of a metro Phoenix car wash chain who admitted turning a blind eye to illegal hiring at his business is asking a judge to postpone his Oct. 20 sentencing date on a conspiracy conviction until at least April.

An attorney for Daniel Lewis Hendon says sentencing would be premature because Hendon still has to divest himself of business interests and investigations into the businesses aren't completed.

Several managers for Danny's Family Car Wash have said that some managers for the business instructed them to rehire workers who had to be fired after a federal audit found nearly half of the company's 1,900-person workforce was people who weren't authorized to work in the United States.

An Aug. 25 hearing has been set for a judge to consider the request.
