TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan — The National Park Service says a 76-year-old man has died on Lake Michigan while fishing with a friend.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore chief ranger Phil Akers tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle (http://bit.ly/1BL731w ) Tuesday the man from Lake Township in Benzie County appears to have died of natural causes Monday night.

Akers says the man was with a friend from Ohio about 100 yards north of the Platte River when the Ohio man noticed his friend's flashlight floating in the water. He found the man floating on his back and unconscious.

Akers says the Ohio man performed CPR for 40 minutes before he found someone with a cellphone to call authorities.

He says the man has been identified but authorities aren't releasing his name as they continue investigating.
