US Marine report describes what happened during July 16 attack on military recruiting center

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee — More details are emerging from an attack where a gunman opened fire on a military recruiting center in Chattanooga this summer.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1YLWuYy) the U.S. Marine Corps released its findings on Monday.

The July 16 attack began at the recruiting center where 24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez fired shots from his car before attacking a U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center, where he killed four Marines and a sailor.

The redacted report says at least four of the Marines at the recruiting center had completed annual anti-terrorist training in 2014, which included how to respond to an active shooter.

In the report, one Marine wrote that the anti-terrorism training wasn't helpful during the attack, but rather, basic Marine training and instinct helped him and others escape.
