DENVER — A 78-year-old woman accused of hitting and killing a 3-year-old Denver boy crossing the street has been charged with careless driving resulting in death.
The Denver District Attorney's Office announced Monday that Joan Hinkemeyer has also been charged with two counts of careless driving resulting in injury.
Hinkemeyer is accused of hitting Austin Strasser as well as his mother and 6-year-old sister as they crossed busy University Boulevard in a crosswalk on Feb. 18. Investigators say Hinkemeyer was turning left onto the street.
Austin was taken to the hospital and died a few days before his fourth birthday.
There was no answer at a telephone number listed for Hinkemeyer. She is due to appear in court March 23.
