THIBODAUX, Louisiana — Officials say a nearly $20 million project to dredge more than eight miles of Bayou Lafourche is expected to begin within the next month.

The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1I0xKVS) the Bayou Lafourche Freshwater District received three bids Monday for the second phase of a large-scale project that aims to increase Mississippi River water flow into the bayou.

District Director Ben Malbrough says the bids ranged between $15 million and $19 million.

The project involves about 8.3 miles between Belle Rose to Napoleonville.

Money for the project comes from the Coastal Impact Assistance Program, which sends revenue from offshore energy production back to the state for restoration projects.
