FORT SMITH, Arkansas — Police in Fort Smith say one man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting in the city.

Police say 20-year-old Carlos Araujo-Mejia was found dead with a gunshot wound to the face about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by officers investigating reports of a shooting in a wooded area.

Sgt. Daniel Grubbs says it appears the victim and his girlfriend had gone into the area with the suspect to drink alcohol when the three began arguing. Grubbs says that during the argument the suspect shot Mejia with a 20-guage shotgun.

The suspect is being held without bond on complaints of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and first-degree terroristic threatening.
