YUMA, Arizona — The case against a former Yuma police officer charged with luring a minor for sexual exploitation has been dismissed.

The Yuma Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1DBZqtP ) the trial for Ron Anton Ciancimino was set to begin July 28 but will no longer take place.

Chief Criminal Deputy Attorney Roger Nelson says the case was dismissed Tuesday, because a crucial witness had disappeared and couldn't be found.

Court records show that the case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning Ciancimino could be charged again if circumstances in the case change.

Ciancimino was arrested in September 2014 in connection with reports that a 16-year-old girl sent to Yuma Regional Medical Center had been a victim of a possible sexual offense.

Deputies met with the victim and found that Ciancimino and Joshua Alpizar had been involved.
