Texarkana woman accused in death of slain square dancer scheduled for pretrial hearing

TEXARKANA, Arkansas — A Texarkana woman accused of capital murder in the death of a fellow square dancing club member is scheduled for a pretrial hearing.

The Texarkana Gazette (http://bit.ly/1JrXPOs ) reports 67-year-old Virginia Hyatt is due back in court in late July. She remained at the Miller County jail Sunday and has been held on a $1 million bond in the December 2013 slaying.

Authorities say Hyatt shot 59-year-old Patricia Wheelington, who was drinking coffee the front porch of her Texarkana home. They say Hyatt was upset because of Wheelington's relationship with Hyatt's estranged husband.

Hyatt has pleaded not guilty to the charge. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty and Hyatt faces life in prison without parole if convicted.
