ROWLEY, Utah — An explosion of hot gas at a Tooele County plant sent two workers to the hospital with serious injuries early Friday morning.
The workers were taken to Intermountain Burn Center in Salt Lake City after the accident at US Magnesium's Rowley plant on the Great Salt Lake's west shore, 60 miles west of Salt Lake City.
Bucky Whitehouse of Tooele County Emergency Management told The Salt Lake Tribune (http://bit.ly/1dacclH ) a supervisor in his 40s and an employee in his 30s suffered "thermal burns" to their upper torsos.
The cause of the 4:45 a.m. accident is under investigation.
US Magnesium spokesman Tom Tripp says a sudden release of hot gas occurred as the employees worked to bring a piece of equipment back on line after several days of maintenance work.
