Shark bites Daytona Beach surfer; man treated at the scene, released

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Authorities say a shark has bitten a surfer on the foot at Daytona Beach.

According to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, a 25-year-old man was in waist-deep water when he was bitten Sunday evening.

Agency spokeswoman Capt. Tamra Marris says the shark, which was not seen, caused minor lacerations to the unidentified surfer's foot.

The victim was treated at the scene and did not need to be brought to a hospital.
