DETROIT — Businesses and community groups are being asked to help beautify the interiors and exteriors of Detroit schools as part of Neighborhoods Day.
ARISE Detroit! is partnering with the city's public schools and says projects are waiting at 22 buildings for the Aug. 1 event.
Projects include painting, planting gardens and flowers, repairing sports fields, mowing lawns, plumbing repairs and boarding up vacant homes in the area.
ARISE Detroit! is a coalition of community groups, churches, block clubs and businesses. Executive Director Luther Keith says Neighborhoods Day "demonstrates pride" in the community.
Garage sales, community art displays, church programs and health fairs are other Neighborhoods Day activities.
More than 200 community service projects and events were held throughout the city during last year's event.
