Police: 1 dead, 1 injured in all-terrain vehicle crash in Vermont, neither wore helmets


LOWELL, Vermont — Vermont State Police say a 46-year-old man is dead and a 39-year-old woman is in the hospital after an all-terrain vehicle they were riding crashed on a remote trail in northern Vermont.

Police say a 2005 Suzuki King Quad ATV they were riding crashed Sunday afternoon about 2 miles into an ATV trail that runs next to Mines Road in Lowell.

Richard Buckland of Montgomery died from his injuries and Elizabeth Buckland is being treated for a possible lung injury.

They were not wearing helmets.

The two victims were transported by remote rescue to North Country Hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
