Greenville woman released after plea related to charge in Pelzer triple homicide

ANDERSON, South Carolina — A Greenville woman has entered a plea related to the shooting deaths of three people in Anderson County last year.

Multiple media outlets reported that 21-year-old Hope Phillips entered an Alford plea to a grand larceny charge Wednesday in Anderson. An Alford plea does not admit guilty but concedes there is enough evidence for a conviction.

Circuit Judge Cordell Maddox sentenced Phillips to the 611 days she had spent in jail and she was released Wednesday.

Phillips was originally charged with murder, accessory after the fact of murder and grand larceny. Prosecutors dropped the other charges after a witness changed her story.

Authorities say Phillips was at a home when her boyfriend Jared Williams shot and killed three people and wounded a fourth. Williams died in prison.
