ST. PAUL, Minnesota — A 75-year-old man is suing the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, saying a now-dead priest sexually abused him 60 years ago.
He was an altar boy in the 1950s at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings. He alleges he was 13 when the Rev. Alphonsus Ferguson first molested him.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Ramsey County alleges the archdiocese knew Ferguson posed a risk but failed to protect children from him.
Ferguson died in the 1970s. KARE-TV and Minnesota Public Radio report (http://bit.ly/1ma8EI1 ) his name isn't on the archdiocese's list of accused priests.
Archdiocese attorney Tom Wieser says a recent review of 3,000 priest files turned up no abuse allegations against Ferguson from his time in Hastings. He says there's no indication the archdiocese was aware of misconduct by him.
