FORT WAYNE, Indiana — Fort Wayne International Airport has opened a cellphone lot to ease curbside congestion.

Airport officials say the move was necessary after curbside pickup became too congested during heavy travel periods.

Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority Director of Operations and Facilities Joe Marana says vehicles have double- and triple-parked waiting to pick up passengers. He says it created a safety concern.

WPTA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1eW0mCS ) drivers can park for free in the cellphone lot until they're alerted of a passenger's arrival. They can then leave the lot and drive around to the terminal entrance to meet a passenger at the curb.

Passengers can also easily walk to the cellphone lot from the terminal.
