MAPLE PLAIN, Minnesota — Members of the Minneapolis Police Department's Mounted Patrol are saying so long to a friend as the department's go-to horse Oliver retires after 13 years.
Oliver has been to more than 1,200 patrol and bar close events during his time with Minneapolis police.
Police say he was named the department's Officer of the Month in October 2002 after he helped a sergeant chase down a shooting suspect.
At noon Friday, members of the Mounted Patrol Unit will walk Oliver out with other horses before he takes off his saddle for the last time.
Oliver is heading to a good home with a Stearns County family.
Even in retirement, Oliver will make some appearances at local parades.
