Police: Rhode Island woman seriously hurt when her car goes out of control, hits pole, trees

BURRILLVILLE, Rhode Island — Police say a woman has been seriously injured in an overnight car crash in Burrillville.

Police Sgt. Jason Eddy tells the Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/1ErIix1) that 54-year-old Melody Huestis of Pascoag was taken by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, after being pinned inside her car for almost two hours. He said she was last listed as stable.

Police said Huestis hit a utility pole and several trees after she lost control of her car on Wallum Lake Road early Saturday, just after midnight. The car went down an embankment and came to rest against a tree.
