RALEIGH, North Carolina — Gov. Pat McCrory has signed into law a bill laying out the activities students and staff can perform while exercising their constitutional rights for religious expression and prayer in North Carolina's public schools.

McCrory's office said the legislation was one of four bills he signed Thursday.

The measure explains how school administrators should comply with federal law and guidance on constitutionally protected prayer. It attempts to make clear the extent to which religious views and literature can be shared on campus and what school personnel may do during voluntary student-led prayer.

Another new law directs the State Board of Education to identify students with military parents or other military connections in school records. The identification could help the state tap into federal military funds.
