PHILADELPHIA — Police and animal control officers say they've rescued more than a dozen pit bulls from a suspected South Philadelphia dog-fighting ring.

Philadelphia Police and the Pennsylvania SPCA raided the Mifflin Street home early Tuesday after they say a neighbor tipped them off.

They say they found five full-grown dogs and eight puppies either chained to radiators or locked in dirty cages.

The Pennsylvania SPCA's George Bengal says some of the dogs were injured and bloodied. One was missing an eye.

He says they also found a small treadmill and other equipment used for training dogs to fight.

The SPCA says it's evaluating the dogs. Police are continuing to investigate. No arrests have been made.
