PIERRE, South Dakota — Attorney General Marty Jackley plans to brief lawmakers Tuesday on his investigation into potential financial misconduct at the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
He'll address the South Dakota Government Operations and Audit Committee of the Legislature in Pierre. It's not clear if the meeting will be open to the public.
A state audit found that just before Richard Benda left his job as head of the economic development office in December 2010, he tacked on an extra $550,000 to a grant agreement to help the struggling Northern Beef Packers plant in Aberdeen.
An earlier report from Jackley said that same amount was improperly diverted to SDRC Inc., Benda's new employer.
Benda was found dead in October near Lake Andes with a fatal shotgun wound. His death was ruled a suicide.
